A new office development boasting strong sustainability credentials has been officially opened by the Lord Mayor of York.
Independence House at Nether Poppleton has achieved an energy performance certificate (EPC) of A, the highest possible rating. It features 200 solar panels on its roof, an air source heat pump, low energy lighting and modern insulation, all of which will help shield office users from spiralling energy costs.
Paul Spencer, managing director of London Ebor Developments, which has developed the £3m flexible office space says: “Energy prices are a significant worry for many businesses, so we’ve invested in the latest technologies to ensure Independence House is as energy efficient as possible. Our rates for leased, serviced, co-working and hot desking reflect the savings that we are making from our energy saving measures, making this a cost-effective, modern and comfortable place to work.”
The Lord Mayor of York Councillor David Carr praised the offices for their “easy in, easy out” contracts and for providing the city with much-needed, high quality office accommodation that delivers economic as well as environmental sustainability.
The 16,000sq ft building is also equipped with eight electric car chargers, secure stands for 30 cycles and ample free on-site parking. It provides 13 leased or serviced offices from 12sqm to 135sqm, plus a co-working and a separate hotdesking room, as well as virtual office services, a breakout area and three meeting rooms for two to 16 people.
Paul Spencer adds: “There has been strong demand for the office space with five of the 13 rooms already occupied, demonstrating the need for high quality offices on the outskirts of the city. We look forward to welcoming more tenants and business users in the coming weeks and months, and creating a thriving business community.”
Independence House is located on Millfield Lane, Nether Poppleton, close to the York outer ring road. The no 10 bus service stops directly outside for easy city centre access.
